About Subflow
Subflow is a $7/month plugin that adds cinema-grade auto-captions to Adobe After Effects. 51 languages, frame-accurate timing, three caption modes, native AE text layers — no exporting to a separate captioning app and back.

I’ve spent the last decade making motion graphics in After Effects — corporate explainers, music videos, broadcast graphics, ad spots. Captioning was always the worst part of the job. So I built Subflow.
Why we built it
Every existing captioning workflow for After Effects was bad. You either exported the video to Premiere, captioned it there, then re-imported — losing all the typography control AE gives you — or you transcribed by hand, which took 15–30 minutes per minute of footage.
The existing AE plugins on aescripts charged $80–$150 one-time fees for tools that still required manual cleanup and didn’t handle frame-accurate timing properly. None of them generated native text layers — they all baked the captions into pre-rendered graphics, which means once they’re in your comp you can’t change the font without redoing the whole thing.
Subflow generates real After Effects text layers, one per caption, with timing snapped to your composition’s frame rate (24, 25, 29.97, 30, or 60 fps). You can change the font, color, or animation on any caption like any other text layer. The only difference is that the transcription, timing, and positioning happened automatically in 30 seconds instead of taking you an afternoon.
How we build the plugin
Subflow is direct-to-customer software — we don’t sell through marketplaces. That keeps the price at $7/month (or $70/year if you commit annually), and it means we ship updates the day they’re ready instead of waiting for marketplace approval cycles. Customer support comes from the same small team that writes the code, so when you email us, you get someone who can actually fix things.
We also publish free subtitle tools on this site — file-format converters, editors, and similar utilities — that are useful even if you don’t buy the plugin. They cover the cases where you don’t need a full AE workflow, just a quick conversion or a clean-up.
If you want to try Subflow, install it here. If you want to ask a question first, write to [email protected].
